Why You Should Take CBD Every Day

If you’ve experienced stress, discomfort, or sleep challenges, you’ve no doubt heard about CBD. Over the past few years, CBD has seemingly popped up everywhere — and for good reason! While we’re generally still in the early stages of CBD research, growing testimony and anecdotal evidence have shown that CBD can be a helpful tool for addressing a wide array of health goals. For some, initial results can be immediate. For the majority, though, it takes time, patience, and consistency to find real success with a CBD routine. Perhaps you find yourself asking why you should take CBD every day?

Let’s start with the basics. Why You Should Take CBD Every Day

CBD works within the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is responsible for maintaining homeostasis, or balance, throughout the body, and is made up of a complex network of cannabinoid receptors and endocannabinoids. Your cannabinoid receptors are present across nearly every area of the body, and endocannabinoid molecules circulate in our bloodstream. The prefix “endo” means “internal or within”, indicating that endocannabinoids are cannabinoids synthesized (or created) by our own body.

The life cycle of endocannabinoids is influenced by a number of internal and external factors, the most notable being our physiological response to stressful stimuli. Our bodies were built to cope with short-term bursts of stress, like running from a tiger or locating shelter in a storm. When such triggers present, our physiological stress response ramps up, and then, once resolved, our bodies can rest and recuperate. However, in today’s day and age, our bodies are constantly barraged by micro-stressors — think: waking up exhausted, answering countless emails, sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic, balancing the many roles we carry, dealing with noise pollution, navigating our relationships, living with discomfort, and all the other everyday tensions that arise with being overscheduled, hyperproductive, and trying to manage too many priorities.

Modern-day culture — and the stressors that come with it — has evolved much faster than human biology, which means that our bodies are not yet able to distinguish between the primitive struggle for survival and the stressful events that happen day-to-day, resulting in the same physiological response regardless of the threat level. The longer our stress response is activated, the harder it is for our body systems to recover — including the ECS! In fact, there is much evidence to suggest that the release of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline can actually deplete levels of circulating endocannabinoids, which are essential for proper ECS function. Therefore, when our stress response is constantly activated, you may experience a decrease in endocannabinoid tone

Our ECS, remember, is responsible for maintaining homeostasis, and plays a role in regulating everything from mood, to sleep, to immune function, hormone regulation, and more. However, when our ECS itself is not balanced, it is unable to properly regulate these other systems, which can result in an array of wellness challenges.

So, where does CBD come in? Why You Should Take CBD Every Day

Now that we understand the relationship between an overstressed system and depleted endocannabinoids, we can then consider where phytocannabinoids can come to the rescue! Phytocannabinoids, like CBD, are cannabinoids synthesized by plants (cannabis and hemp, in particular!) as noted by the prefix “phyto”. These plant-based cannabinoids share a strikingly similar molecular structure with our body’s own endocannabinoids, suggesting that, in many ways, these molecules are functionally similar as well. One identified way in which endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids behave similarly is in their ability to bind to and activate cannabinoid receptors of the ECS.

That’s not all, though! Recent studies have uncovered an interesting relationship between CBD and the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of endocannabinoids, noting that CBD may bind to and deactivate these enzymes for a short period of time. Therefore, when we use CBD daily, not only are we augmenting the body with phytocannabinoids, we’re also enabling it to create its own endocannabinoids again; which results in a balanced endocannabinoid tone!

Consistency and customization go hand-in-hand.

When taken every day, and with personalized adjustments to their dosage routine, most say CBD helped them meet their long-term health goals. We may not always be able to stop the many micro-stressors that come with our busy lives, but we can care for ourselves in how we cope with day-to-day stress with the help of CBD. The goal of taking CBD every day is to maximize the strength and effectiveness of the body’s ECS, but your health goals will determine when doses are best taken to find the best success. While most of our members at Equilibria report benefits such as improved mood, reduced mental strain, and better sleep within their first few weeks, many benefits of a highly functioning ECS are not fully experienced right away.

Why You Should Take CBD Every DayAlong your CBD journey, don’t be afraid to experiment! Every woman’s body is different, which means there isn’t a one-size-fits-all CBD dose. Depending on the delivery method and dose, the full effects of CBD may only remain in your system for 4-12 hours, so it’s important to be thoughtful and consistent with your CBD intake.
