CBD with MCT Oil: Why They Are Better Together

If you are familiar with Equilibria, then you may have noticed that our ingredients are always front and center. While you’re probably aware that our Daily Drops and Daily Softgels contain our high quality, full-spectrum, organic hemp concentrate, what you may not realize is that MCT oil is an essential part of the formula to help you make the most of these ingested CBD products. Perhaps you’re wondering, “What is MCT oil?” and “Why is it in my CBD?” At Equilibria, we’re here to empower you with science-focused information so you can understand the how and why of the CBD process, like why we use MCT oil in our products.

Before we can dive into more about the specifics of MCT oil, it’s important to know why we use a carrier oil in our CBD.

What is carrier oil?

Carrier oil is an oil used to help transfer another material into your body. For instance, it’s frequently added into skincare products and soaps to help our bodies take in the full benefits of essential oils. But the concept of carrier oil is certainly not exclusive to bath and beauty products, the majority of CBD brands also add some sort of carrier oil to their hemp oil to promote better absorption into the body.*

There are several different types of carrier oils, but much like CBD, be aware that not all of them are created equally. Choosing a trusted brand who sources a safe, top-notch, high-fat carrier oil can play a significant role in the effectiveness and overall experience from your CBD products. We pair our superior-quality, organic MCT oil with our organic, premium, full-spectrum CBD to provide you the best CBD journey possible.*

What is MCT oil?

MCT oil, or medium-chain triglyceride oil, is a type of oil typically derived from coconut or palm oil containing a medium-length chain of fatty acids with 6-12 carbon atoms. There are four kinds of MCT oil: caproic acid (C6), caprylic acid (C8), capric acid (C10), and lauric acid (C12). The number denoted to each type corresponds with the number of carbon atoms in each MCT.

Caproic acid (C6) and lauric acid (C12) tend to be less favorable choices of MCT oil than caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10) because they can have a bitter flavor profile, undesirable side effects, and don’t offer the same potency benefits.*

Why is MCT oil the best choice for our CBD?

CBD is fat-soluble, or in other words, it dissolves in oils or fats. In their natural state, CBD molecules are generally too large for our bodies to properly absorb, therefore it’s critical to have a carrier oil containing a high amount of fat, so that your CBD can be absorbed the best it can. MCT molecules have a smaller structure than CBD and can help break down the molecules to enhance bioavailability, or the degree and rate your body can absorb the hemp-based molecules into your system.*

It’s usually considered the preferred choice for CBD because it contains an abundance of fat, can be broken down at a faster rate, and more readily processed by the body than other long-chain triglycerides, like omega-3 fatty acids found in fish.*

Research indicates that MCT oil might offer its own health benefits as well. Some studies suggest that it may act as a source of energy, play a role in managing your hunger cues, and aid digestion.*

About our MCT Oil

At Equilibria, we understand that even the smallest details can make a big difference in your results, which is why we carefully consider every ingredient and make science-driven decisions. Our MCT oil is organic, coconut-derived, and composed strictly of C8 and C10 triglycerides to provide the most favorable outcomes. Not only that, but we specifically use MCT obtained from coconuts because it’s considered to be more sustainable than MCT oil from palm oil. We truly care about what goes into your CBD products and want you to reap the full benefits from all the therapeutic molecules in our full-spectrum hemp extract.*

Throughout the entire process of formulating our products, we continuously conduct research and take steps to meticulously ensure you’re getting top-quality CBD and MCT oil. We always have our products third-party lab tested, so you know exactly what’s going into your CBD. Rest assured that your MCT oil is safe and a necessary part of the equation.*
