Does CBD Oil Work? 5 Reasons You Aren’t Feeling The Effects

Do you remember getting your first Equilibria box in the mail? It’s normal to feel a little excitement and nervousness when beginning a CBD routine! What’s it going to feel like? Does CBD oil work? Will it help right away? How do I know what’s right for me? These were all questions I had in my head when I started taking CBD, and after talking with hundreds of Equilibria members, I hear these questions often. Another question that frequently comes up: What if I’m not feeling anything? Am I doing something wrong?

If you find yourself asking these questions, then this article is for you. Here, we break down the top 5 possible reasons you might not be feeling results with your CBD routine. Just because you aren’t feeling results now, doesn’t mean you won’t in the future!

Does CBD Oil Work? 5 Reasons You Aren’t Feeling The Effects

CBD takes time to show its full effects

When starting a CBD routine, it’s important to remember that CBD takes time to show its full effects in our bodies.

We often see signs of CBD start working in the first 2-3 weeks of daily usage.  While that can seem like some time, it’s important to understand that CBD compounds over time and to give your body the space it needs to adjust. It takes time because CBD works with our body’s Endocannabinoid System (or ECS for short). Our ECS is an “umbrella system” that is responsible for managing every other system in our body…everything from our digestion to our menstrual cycle, to our wake-and-sleep cycle is managed by this larger system, the Endocannabinoid System!

At this stage of your routine, ‘life-changing results’ are lovely, but not necessarily how to measure ‘success’ with your CBD routine. What we are looking for is small indications that we’re headed in the right direction. We’ll often hear folks say “I didn’t snap like I have been lately during a stressful conversation today!” or “I didn’t sleep the whole night, but I did notice I woke up much less!”  We love to hear that, as these are just a few of the benefits our members share with us that let us know we’re heading in the right direction!  Then we often see a fuller picture after 2-3 months of daily, consistent CBD use.

CBD absorption

The WAY you take your CBD matters! The more CBD your body absorbs, the more bioavailable it is, which means your body can then utilize it for supporting your Endocannabinoid System. You can try these tips and tricks for better absorption:

  • Daily Drops: Put the Drops under your tongue and try to hold them there for at least 60 seconds.  The CBD sinks in through the glands under your tongue, so to absorb it fully as possible, we suggest setting a 60-second timer and hold the Drops under your tongue for that full minute or even a bit longer!.
  • Daily Softgels: Try taking your Softgels alongside a meal or a snack, especially foods that are rich in healthy fats.  According to a University of Minnesota study, eating a fat-rich meal with your CBD can allow it to absorb up to 4x more!
  • Daily Gummies: Be sure to chew your gummy thoroughly!  The more you chew the Daily Gummy, the more that the CBD starts to break down in your mouth and begins absorbing right away through your sublingual glands.  Then whatever is swallowed will kick in about 30 minutes later, once it’s gone through your digestive system.
  • Rapid Calming Melts: Take a sip of water, swallow, then place the Rapid Calming Melt under your tongue.  Don’t chew, crush, or swallow the Melt.  Our Rapid Calming Melts feature an exclusive micro-particle binding technology that allows you to absorb up to 95% of the CBD directly into your bloodstream!

Your dose

Many folks think that CBD dosing is just based on your height and weight…but your CBD dose has a lot more to do with the amount of stress you’ve experienced in your lifetime and your full wellness profile! One of CBD’s roles is to help combat the negative effects of stress hormones like cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine.  When our body is constantly stressed and living in a heightened “fight or flight” mode, cortisol can skyrocket and cause our body’s endocannabinoids to become depleted.

While we always suggest starting off “low and slow” with your CBD routine, we often find that folks who have a history of ongoing issues may need stronger doses.  More severe issues like lasting discomfort, autoimmune disorders, or a lifetime of depression or anxiety can contribute to our Endocannabinoid System to be depleted.  It’s understandable for these more severe issues to take a bit more time and stronger doses to improve.  A daily, consistent routine is key!

Medication considerations

Here at Equilibria we believe in empowering our members with the best CBD education possible.  We know that CBD is not a one-size-fits-all product, and what works for one person might not be a good fit for another person. Many folks reach out to us and want to know if their medications interact with CBD.

While our dosage support team is not a replacement for your healthcare team, and we always encourage you to speak with your doctor, we do have a Pharmacy Team available to support conversation about your medications and CBD.

Our Pharmacy Team is happy to provide general education and help guide next steps.  We want to help you have open, honest conversations with your doctor and provide any resources you need!

Tweaking your routine to fit your lifestyle

As the seasons change, your health goals may change as well! We talk with many folks during our dosage consultations who find that their health goals change over the course of a year. Maybe you were looking for sleep support during the busy summer months and relied on a slow-release Softgel, and now with fall approaching and school back in session, you might be wanting CBD products with more targeted stress relief, like our Rapid Calming Melts or Daily Gummies.

It’s completely normal to allow your CBD to ebb and flow, depending on the season you’re in!  Our team of Dosage Specialists are here to help you every step of the way if you’d like to talk more about personalizing your routine.
