Whenever you’re shopping for CBD, there’s a lot of things to consider, and we know that it can be confusing to know where to start. You might find yourself asking questions like “What product is best for me?”, “Should I start with a topical CBD product or an ingestible one? ” and “What’s the difference between regular strength and extra strength CBD?”
If you’re unsure of what CBD strength you need, then this article is for you!
Here at Equilibria, we value a customized, personalized approach to CBD. We know that everybody’s body chemistry is different, and there’s no “one-size-fits-all” dosage or routine. So how do you know what dosage is best for you? If your stress is extra high, does that automatically mean you need Extra Strength CBD? We want to provide clarity and share CBD knowledge to help you answer all of your questions. Let’s start with the basics below…
If you’re looking to get started with a daily CBD routine, you might find it helpful to check out our Shop page. We’ve carefully curated boxes with your wellness needs in mind. Many women start with a Calm Box or Balance Box, while others dealing with more targeted issues might start with our Sleep or Relief Box. All of these curated boxes are great places to start if you’re new to CBD or you’re switching to Equilibria after trying another CBD brand.
Whenever you start CBD, it’s important to “start low and go slow” — you’ll hear our Dosage Specialists talk about this as well. This means starting with a small milligram dose of CBD and slowly ramping up to find your “sweet spot” dosage. We don’t recommend folks to buy Extra Strength products for your first EQ order even if you’re a seasoned CBD user, because it’s important to see how you respond to Equilibria’s formula of full-spectrum CBD first.
Starting low and going slow also means starting with one of our curated signature boxes (Balance, Calm, Sleep, Relief Box) or buying one product, like our 10mg Softgels or our 300mg Daily Drops. It’s a great way to ease into a routine that works for you! Most of the folks who take Equilibria are on a daily dose of 20-30mg of CBD, which is still considered a low dose of CBD. When it comes to CBD, quality matters! That’s why our formula is so unique. We take the time to hand-trim only the flower portion of the hemp plant — which is where all the beneficial cannabinoids live! Because of our hand-trimming practices, our CBD products have 3-5x more terpenes (or cannabis essential oils) than most CBD products on the market — the terpenes are responsible for helping the product work better in smaller doses!
Another important tip: a common sign of taking too much CBD is feeling groggy or drowsy at a time you’re not normally tired — this could be a sign that you went past your “sweet spot” and took too much CBD! For this reason, we don’t recommend buying our Extra Strength products as your first product. If you buy our 25mg Extra Strength Daily Softgels or our 1500mg Extra Strength Daily Drops, and you find that the main effect they have on you is producing a tired/groggy feeling, then there’s not much adjusting that can be done, and your product might go to waste. Just think of it this way – you can always add more CBD to your routine, and the best way to make an informed decision is to understand how Regular Strength CBD works for you then build up from there.
Is Your CBD Routine Headed In The Right Direction?
It’s important to remember CBD is lipophilic, meaning it dissolves in fats and compounds in your body over time. When CBD is used consistently, many folks start to see positive shifts within 1-3 weeks. This is a sign that your CBD is on the right track! Then we often see the BEST results after 2-3 months of consistent use.
This is because CBD helps to balance our Endocannabinoid System or ECS for short. The ECS is our master regulatory system whose job is to maintain homeostasis — or balance — across all of our body’s systems. You name it and the ECS regulates it! CBD works with our Endocannabinoid System to bring balance to so many areas: our wake-and-sleep cycle, our menstrual cycle, our stress response, our immune system…the list goes on!
Your CBD dose has a lot to do with the amount of stress you’ve experienced in your lifetime. One of CBD’s roles is to fight the effects of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, so if you’re someone who lives in a constant state of stress or you’ve had a lifetime of sleep and inflammation issues — it’s likely that these issues will take more time to balance out. You may also need a stronger dose of CBD to see the effects you’re looking for!
These are some signs to look for during your first month of CBD use:
– I feel more energy when I wake up and throughout the day
– I’m feeling less reactive to stressful situations — more even-keel and balanced
– My aches & discomfort are lessening
– I’m having a less dramatic cycle (decreased mood swings, less bloating, decreased hormonal acne, etc)
– I’m having an easier time winding down after my busy day
– I’m able to get more restful sleep and sleep through the night
If you’ve been using CBD for 2-3 weeks consistently, and you’re still not feeling any positive effects or signs that you’re headed in the right direction, then it might be time to talk with your Dosage Specialist about increasing your dosage!
Why Less Is Often More
Keep in mind that CBD has what’s known as a “biphasic response”, meaning that there is a “therapeutic window” for a positive response to CBD. The goal with CBD is to start slow and on a low dosage, see how you respond, and try to find your “sweet spot” where you’re feeling the positive effects but not tipping over into negative effects (like feeling tired or groggy)
If you take too small of a dose of CBD, then it may be ineffective, and if you take too large of a dose, you may experience the opposite effect of what you’re intending (i.e. feeling jazzed and awake when you’re trying to wind down) It’s for this reason, that it’s best to start on a small dosage, give it a few weeks to begin working, and then meet with your Dosage Specialist if you’re considering moving to a stronger formula. When using CBD, think of it as a marathon, not a sprint!
Thinking of Moving To An Extra Strength Formula?
As a Dosage Specialist, I’m often asked “How do you know when it’s time to bump up to a stronger formula?” There are a few things to consider here. Keep in mind that your CBD dose has a lot to do with the goals and health issues you’re tackling. Folks who have more chronic or long-standing issues that impact their health and well-being may need stronger doses of CBD to see their desired effects.
A couple of questions to consider if you’re ready for a stronger dose:
– Have you been using CBD consistently for 1-3 weeks?
– Does your current routine make you feel sleepy or drowsy? (that’s often a sign of too strong of a dose)
– Are you taking more than 1 full dropper of 300mg Daily Drops (or 10mg CBD / 1mL)?
– Do you take 2 or more 10mg Softgels each day?
-Does it feel like you’ve made progress with your CBD routine, but you want a bit stronger effect?
If you’ve answered YES to any of these questions, now would be the perfect time to touch base with your Dosage Specialist and talk about the next steps. Typically we’ll look at the products you already have and come up with a game-plan to see if you’re a good candidate for the Extra Strength products.
Equilibria Extra Strength Products
1500mg Extra Strength Daily Drops — equivalent to 5 bottles of our regular strength 300mg Daily Drops. They pack a punch, and most folks who buy this strength end up taking just a ¼ (12.5mg/0.25mL) dropper dose at a time.
25mg Extra Strength Softgels — this is like taking (2) of your 10mg Softgels (20mg CBD) + a little extra CBD added in. These Softgels are a great way to experience that slow, steady drip of CBD. We often find that our members with chronic issues use this form of CBD because it provides sustained relief throughout the day or night.
